About Us

When only the best wil do...John Pettits

A strong sense of tradition goes hand in hand with modern expertise at John Pettit Butchers.

By maintaining the policies of the first John Pettit of 1892, our emphasis still remains on quality, service and reliability, allied with a determination to keep up with demands of today's customer.

That policy through four generations has been never to sacrifice quality for price.

Our Company is well known and respected for Prime Scotch Aberdeen Angus Beef, Fresh Free Range Poultry and Game from Lincolnshire and Yorkshire, and Farm Assured Lincolnshire Pork.

Our Free Range Lambs are primarily from Lincolnshire Wolds, although we periodically purchase Welsh Lamb, the latter re-establishing a link started by the first John Pettit at the turn of the century.

We celebrated our centenary in 1992. But far from resting on our laurels we are relishing the challenges of the new millenium.

Pettit's have a worldwide reputation for Lincolnshire Pork Sausages made to an original family recipe dating back to 1810.

In recent years our sausage division has expanded dramatically. Our development kitchens are constantly introducing innovative products, additions for 2006 include 'Pork, Black Pudding and Portobello Mushroom', 'Pork, Basil and Orange' and most recently ' Roquefort Cheese and Purple Fig Forcemeat'... a marriage made in heaven!

Our products are sold throughout the British Isles to numerous Blue Chip clients.

As you can see Pettit's are more than just a Family Butcher. We offer a service that is unequalled or as they say, simply a cut above the rest.

The Team

John Pettit

John Pettit & Sons were founded in 1892 by the original John Pettit who ran the business in Bethlehem Street Grimsby until 1930 when his son Harold Roy took over the reins. Harold guided the company through the difficult austere times of WW2 and rationing until the early 1960’s when the present John Pettit inherited control. John still remains active in the company with customer liaison and new product development.

Andy Johnson

John’s son-in-law Andy, the fourth generation, has now assumed control of the company’s general management, an increasingly onerous task with the ever escalating complexity of company, health and safety and employment legislation.

He has overall responsibility for ensuring an excellence of presentation conjoined with constant high product quality for our retail, website and foodservice customers.

Paul McCann

Paul a relatively new member of our team has made an instant impression on both his colleagues and customers with his style and flair.

Born in Geelong – Victoria – Australia his Aussie twang is a natural hit with our female customers; since his arrival last year we have seen a marked increase in the level of sales through our retail outlet.

He takes great pride and pleasure in serving; suggesting new Antipodean ideas of preparing a variety of cuts giving our customers a new experience.

His knowledge and manner has been indoctrinated into all our shop staff enabling us to provide a greater level of service for our clients…he has provided a significant input into the designing the parameters of our website.

George, Kirk & Chris Brown

Our recent major investment into a state-of-the-art kitchen was no more than George and his two sons deserved; they continue to produce ever increasing volumes of award winning cooked meats and pastries.

Mike MacDonald

Mike has a dual role co-ordinating stock levels and butchering the meat into the primal cuts. It is a very responsible position having to liaise with the retail, website and foodservice departments to guarantee they always have sufficient prepared dry-aged meat available to meet their requirements.

Lee Whotton

Lee, an irreplaceable employee, has been with us ever since he left school some 28 years ago; he has always been reliable... On occasion irascible... Unceasingly invaluable... At times absolutely insufferable...But above all loveable!

Mike Lamberton

Mike is another long term employee, started in 1988, as a part-time cleaner and through his hard work and endeavour has progressed to become production manager of our foodservice sausage and burger production.

Caroline Hotchkin

Our in-house company accountant is unusual…she has a wicked sense of humour! …her conscientious control of finances continues to be an invaluable asset in maintaining the prosperity of our company.

Danielle Whotton

Now, what can we say about Danielle, she’s a Whotton! It is vital for any company to have a welcoming telephone voice, Danielle is proving to possess a warm efficient demeanour that our customers enjoy.

The Team

We have only highlighted a few members of our company. We have over 50 loyal members of staff in total… they are all without exception dedicated to uphold our company philosophy of…When only the best will do!
